Xiang Yanmei, born on June 13, 1992 in Baojing, Hunan, is a member of the Chinese National Women's Weightlifting Team. In September 2003, Xiang Yanmei began practicing weightlifting. In 2008, she won the women's 75-kilogram category championship at the National Weightlifting Championship. In 2009, she finished second in the women's 75-kilogram category at the 11th National Games. In 2010, she won the women's 69-kilogram category championship at the National Weightlifting Championship. In 2012, she entered the School of Public Administration at Central South University to study. In 2013, she won the women's 69-kilogram category overall championship at the World Weightlifting Championship. In December 2015, Xiang Yanmei was nominated for the CCTV Sports Figure of the Year Award for Best Female Athlete. In August 2016, she won the women's 69-kilogram category championship at the Rio Olympics. In August 2016, she was awarded the National May Day Labor Medal. On August 30, 2017, Xiang Yanmei won her first National Games championship in the women's 69-kilogram weightlifting event. On September 18, 2021, she won the gold medal in the women's 76-kilogram weightlifting event at the 14th National Games.
